I'm a Broker
The Shared Services Insurance Group welcomes working with brokers!
The SSIG is an insurance company licensed in the state of Pennsylvania to provide student sickness/accident & sports insurance to schools within Pennsylvania. Licensure in other states is currently underway but not yet complete.
Insured School Profile
The basic criteria for being one of our insured schools are:
Hard Waiver is Required – Schools in the program must require that all their full-time students have health insurance. The best approach is for the insurance policy premium to be automatically included on the tuition bill; it can only be removed if the student shows adequate proof that they have insurance (at least comparable to the SSIG policy) that will pay local providers. The hard waiver program can be administered by the school, the school's broker or by SSIG.
SSIG is the Sole Provider – SSIG insured schools agree that the SSIG program is the only insurance program that they will offer for the policy year. This insures that adequate numbers of insured students can be obtained to ensure viability.
Number of Policies Sold – Schools joining SSIG should have a history of annual student policy sales at a minimum of 150 policies sold. Each school is evaluated on a case by case basis.
Intercollegiate Sports Insurance – SSIG "prefers" to work with schools by providing them with both their student sickness & accident insurance and their intercollegiate sports insurance. By providing both programs the underwriting risks associated with the school are reduced.

A.M. Best Rating
As the SSIG was formed in 2007, it has not yet been rated by the A.M. Best Company, however SSIG is reinsured by the Houston Casualty Corporation which maintains a rating of A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best Company and AA (Very Strong) by Standard & Poor's and AA (Very Strong) by Fitch Ratings.
Commission Structure
We realize that brokers have differing financial relationships with their client schools. Some are on a fee basis while others are commissioned. The SSIG will issue quotes for qualified schools to the broker on a net of commission basis. The broker will then be responsible for adding their fee (as applicable) to the SSIG quote prior to client presentation.
