I'm a School Administrator

Welcome to the Shared Services Insurance Group, Inc. and a new approach to student and sports insurance!

School administration in a meetingThe SSIG was created in 2007 by a group of non-profit colleges and universities who wanted well-managed, low cost coverage for students and athletes without a high motive for profits. The results have been a program focused on the needs of students, administrators, athletic trainers, health center staff and others who have a role in managing these coverages.

The SSIG is a licensed Pennsylvania insurance company that is jointly owned by a number of non-profit colleges and universities. At present, SSIG is only available to Pennsylvania schools. Licensure in other states is currently underway but not yet complete.

Joining SSIG

SSIG is seeking a limited number of schools to join our program for the 2008/09 policy year. With a program focused on the needs of students and schools and less so on profits, the SSIG needs to insure that all member schools meet certain criteria to insure the long-term success of the program. The basic criteria for being one of our insured members is:

Hard Waiver is Required – Schools in the program must require that all their full-time students have health insurance. The best approach is for the insurance policy premium to be automatically included on the tuition bill; it can only be removed if the student shows adequate proof that they have insurance (at least comparable to the SSIG policy) that will pay local providers. The hard waiver program can be administered by the school, the school's broker or by SSIG. We can help you implement a hard waiver program if you don't already have one.

SSIG is the Sole Provider – SSIG insured schools agree that the SSIG program is the only insurance program that they will offer for the policy year. This insures that adequate numbers of insured students can be obtained to ensure viability.

Number of Policies Sold – Schools joining SSIG should have a history of annual student policy sales at a minimum of 150 policies sold. Each school is evaluated on a case by case basis.

Intercollegiate Sports Insurance – SSIG "prefers" to work with schools by providing them with both their student sickness & accident insurance and their intercollegiate sports insurance. By providing both programs the underwriting risks associated with the school are reduced.

24-Hour Nurse Response Program

The SSIG has contracted with Nurse Response to provide medical triage phone services for your students. Nurse Response is a URAC accredited Health Call Center and operates in compliance with the practice standards set forth by the AAACN.

The Nurse Response nurses are experienced professionals who have the knowledge to help students with immediate health concerns and make informed decisions. Nurse Response will work directly with your campus health center staff to develop a profile of the clinical resources at your campus and your area's medical community. Anytime Nurse Response provides triage services to one of your students they will send an encounter form outlining the specifics of the situation to your health center the next day.
